Wellbeing

Wellbeing at YJPS

At Yarra Junction Primary School, we are dedicated to our school community wellbeing. Creating a positive school environment where our students feel valued and safe. We do this through teaching and modelling our school values of Respect, Resilience, High Expectations and Collaboration. As a school we are committed to providing a consistent Whole School Approach to wellbeing, valuing student input and celebrating diversity.

Our Programs:

At YJPS we have one 50-minute Wellbeing lesson per week. In these lessons we cover the Respectful Relationships curriculum through The Resilience Project lessons and the EveryBODY Education Program.

The Resilience Project:

Yarra Junction Primary School students engage in social and emotional learning curriculum through their participation in the Resilience Project. The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs to schools, sports clubs and businesses, providing practical, evidence-based, positive mental health strategies to build resilience and happiness.

The Resilience Project focuses on four key strategies:

Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM) and Emotional Literacy

Our Steps Board and Values Cylnder:

The Steps to Success Board is a school wide approach to encourage positive behaviour both in the classroom and playground. The steps board promotes students to develop personal skills so that they are responsible and take charge of their actions and make choices about their personal behaviour.

Each students starts the day on the black step. Students who are making ‘Green Brain’ choices throughout the day are rewarded by moving up the steps on the board. If a student makes a ‘Red Brain’ choice, their steps person is moved down the board. If at any point in the day a student reaches the top step, they are awarded a Values Token, which they place in our values cylinders. When the top of a cylinder is reached, the class can choose a reward from our rewards menu.
