Yarra Junction Primary School is situated on the Warburton Highway, 65 km east of Melbourne in the Upper Yarra Valley. Yarra Junction is the centre of the Upper Yarra Valley with magnificent views of the mountains. The school was established in 1894 and has provided outstanding education to the residents of the Upper Yarra Valley. For over 100 years we have educated children from the Yarra Valley. We play a strong and active role within the community and are seen as educational leaders and the cornerstone of the community.
The school has seen a steady increase in student numbers and we have approximately 250 students.
Our school is organised into multi aged grades, except for grade Prep. The average class size is 21 students and all grades.
We run specialist classes of Physical Education, Computers, Art and Craft, Library and LOTE (Japanese).
We have a Welfare Coordinator and School Chaplain who run our outstanding pastoral care program. Some of the programs that we run are; U Can Do It, YJPS Values program, Red and Green Brain, Boys to Men and many more.
We also run many enrichment programs (skiing, rock climbing, scuba diving, etc) that help to improve the children’s self esteem.
Our facilities are well maintained and in 2009 our school built an outstanding stadium through a community co-operative.
The computer facilities at our school are leading edge. We have five desktop computers and interactive whiteboards in all classrooms. All grade five and six students have use of mini laptops.
